	'Starter pack' of lefty stationery items
	Our "Little Lefty Set" is ideal for children who have started to show signs of being left-handed (from approximately 3 years old).  It contains all the essential items a young left-handed child needs to have a happier and more productive time at school. It consists of: A small pair of genuine LEFT-handed scissors.  The perfect size for little hands and the ends of the blades are rounded for safety.  (These are the economy scissors for children with green handles.  For more information about them please visit our scissors page.) A 17cm (6”) left-handed ruler.  The zero is on the right hand side.  This makes measuring tasks much easier for left-handers because their hand does not cover up the measurements. (See below for more info.) An ergonomically moulded pencil grip.  This greatly assists a young left-hander to develop the correct tripod grip for holding a pen or pencil. A left-handed precision made 2-hole container pencil sharpener.  (See below for more info.)  A Handwriting Booklet with special tips and guidelines.  This will make you much more aware of the specific challenges left-handed children face when it comes to handwriting and will help you to ensure that these are not a problem for your little lefty. 5 fun cutting out and colouring in activities with helpful instructions about how to instruct your child to cut out as a left-hander.  These activities will help your child develop scissor technique without even noticing it and will assist in the development of hand-eye co-ordination, motor skills and scissor control. An ambidextrous pencil and eraser make the set complete. 	Left-handed Rulers are scaled from right to left..
	This is the direction lefties draw a line to avoid the nib snagging on the paper!  Having the zero on the right hand side ensures that the left hand doesn't get in the way of seeing the scale when measuring.  The right-to-left direction for making measurement marks and ruling lines is much easier for left-handers and this direction of movement allows the pencil to move more easily on the paper - this way the nib of the pencil or pen is far less likely to snag on the paper! So simple - yet it really does make all those measuring tasks so much easier for left-handers!

	Left-handed Pencil Sharpeners
	Our left-handed pencil sharpener sharpens both standard and large size pencils. The pencil is held in the left hand, the sharpener in the right hand and the pencil is turned away from the body anti-clockwise; the most comfortable turning motion for a left-hander. This pencil sharpener is precision made in Germany and is the ideal size for school or for slipping into a  pencil case.    The shavings are held neatly in the perspex lid which can be taken off and emptied when it is full.   One lefty pencil sharpener is included in the Little Lefty Set.

	This is a very valuable aid for promoting the correct holding of a pencil because it encourages the tripod grip.  It also reduces stress on the fingers and writer’s cramp.  Designed by doctors, it works with the body’s natural physiology to gently place the fingers in the proper position for gripping.  This pencil grip will help any young child develop a good grip of the writing instrument. There is both an ‘L’ marking and an ‘R’ marking on the pencil grip.  Left-handers put their thumb on the ‘L’  and the forefinger and middle fingers fit comfortably into the remaining indentations to form the tripod grip all set for writing!  Similarly right-handers put their thumb on the ’R’ and they are all set for writing.  I have used this with very young lefties and righties to good effect in my teaching.  It helps young children stop pressing too hard and it really does work! Young and old can use this marvellous invention to write more easily, more comfortably, without fatigue and without pain. It is great for exams and a godsend for those with arthritis in their fingers. It can be used on pens, pencils, felt tips, paint brushes and the thinner craft knives for a secure grip.  One ergonomically moulded pencil grip is included in the Little Lefty Set.  Additional grips in different colours can be purchased separately.
